Is oil and food splatter normal while cooking?

Yes, oil and food splatter should be expected on any appliance used to cook food. Each Hestan Cue recipe is crafted or vetted by a chef on our culinary team. The recipes they develop often require high heat to get a desired cooking outcome which would be impractical or impossible to get at lower heat settings. As it turns out, oil and food splatter is a natural outcome of this cooking technique, and there’s no method to prevent it while maintaining the desired cooking result. Unless instructed otherwise, do not cover the cookware with a lid as doing so will significantly change the cooking outcome. Using a splatter guard will reduce the amount of splatter, but may also change the cooking outcome and is therefore not recommended.
